Congratulations on getting off to a great start! Now it’s game on and time to build on what you’ve achieved so far.

To earn your second pin badge, you need to complete 3 tasks, just make sure you try something new:

  1. Have a go at a sport
  2. Work on your skills
  3. Support the environment through sport and physical activity

Take a look at our activity suggestions for each of the themes below, take photos as you go, and then submit them via the form at the bottom of this page to earn your Get Set pin. Remember you just need to try something new, no repeating what you achieved for you Get Set badge!

Have a go at different sports

This task is about participating in different sports/physical activity. In each round, you will need to have a go at different sports. You can have a go at more than one sport in a round, but you will then need to choose different sports in the other rounds.

  • Playing team sports such as football, goalball or cricket with a team or just socially with friends
  • Cycling on a tandem bike as the stoker with a pilot or a group bike with family or friends
  • Playing tennis with a friend or family member
  • Going running with a guide runner or a group of running friends (tethered or untethered)
  • Taking part in athletics-style events at school with friends or at home with family
  • Taking part in a VICTA Sport taster day
  • Taking part in a VICTA Sport Young Achievers Day
  • Choose your own!

Work on improving your skills

This task is about improving your skills and developing your physical literacy to help you when participating in sports and physical activity.

This could be trying a skill for the first time or choosing a skill to get even better at by setting personal challenges e.g. catching a ball ten times in a row.

  • Kicking challenge – keepy-uppies, passing or shooting accuracy challenges into a goal or to a friend
  • Catching challenge – ’round the clock’ catching game, how far can you catch a throw, catch one handed – how many times without dropping?
  • Balancing challenge – hopping challenges, completing balance beams/logs/rope walks at the park, stepping stones
  • Walking challenge – set yourself a steps target for a week
  • Bending/twisting challenge – with a partner, using a ball overhead, between legs, round waists – how many times without dropping it? Can you go faster?
  • Running challenge – challenge yourself to run a distance in a chosen timeframe e.g. 2km without stopping
  • Taking part in a VICTA Sport taster day
  • Taking part in a VICTA Sport Young Achievers Day
  • Choose your own!

Become an eco champion through sport

This task is about having a positive impact on the environment through sport and physical activity.

Sports activity can have a significant impact on the environment such as single use plastic bottles, travel and the manufacture of sports equipment.

  • Take inspiration from organisations making a positive impact on the environment through sport include:
    • Sport England’s Every Move strategy, to support environmentally sustainable activity in sport
    • Forest Green Rovers – an organic pitch that recycles rainwater for irrigation, avoiding single use plastics in their matchday catering
    • Green Football Weekend – the world’s largest climate-football campaign with initiatives such as recycling old sports kit
    • Surfers Against Sewage – tackling sewage and plastic pollution in oceans
  • Use a reusable water bottle when taking part in sports and physical activity
  • Take public transport to a sports event/activity
  • Donate unused or unwanted sports equipment e.g. Runners Need or Kits4Causes
  • Repurpose old bike helmets as hanging baskets
  • Repurpose old bike wheels into bike art
  • Repurpose old skateboards into shelves
  • Create your own home gym from household items

Terms and conditions

  • The Sport Young Achievers Award is open to children who are following a primary school curriculum who are registered or are registrable as blind or partially sighted as per our requirements for support; you may be asked to provide supporting documentation of your child’s vision impairment. Any questions regarding eligibility, please contact sports@victa.org.uk
  • Entrants must be permanent residents of the UK
  • For each round, entrants must complete three activities
  • Evidence submission must be completed by a parent/carer
  • By submitting evidence for the award, you agree to your photos/videos, your child’s name and age being used by VICTA, including being displayed on the VICTA website, on our social media channels and on charity emails
  • Please note, the actual badges and medal you receive might differ to the ones in the illustrations. The illustrations represent the first set of badges and medals to collect.

Does your Young Achiever have a sibling that does the award alongside them? We’d like to recognise all those Super Siblings out there – we know you work just as hard as your brother or sister. When you submit your activities, make sure to pop the name of your Super Sibling on the form and we’ll celebrate them with their very own set of pin badges and once all badges have been collected, a very special Super Sibling medal!
