Tactile Times are in the Christmas Spirit!
Tactile Times have just launched their fully accessible, online advent calendar for the third year in a row.
Are you tired of print advent calendars that just feel like…well…paper? This one is different. It is fully accessible with all major screen readers using a computer or phone, and you can access it with a BrailleNote Touch as well. You might even hear a few familiar voices along the way!
You can visit it to open the first couple of doors right now.
Tactile Times will have a new door unlocking each day, and a bumper day on the 24th.
This is a great opportunity to practice your internet navigation skills and keyboard shortcuts, while discovering a new piece of hidden content each day.
If you’re on a phone, you can practice your rotor skills by setting the VoiceOver to ‘headings’ to find the table which runs the calendar behind the scenes, and ‘from controls’ to find the doors and more.
We hope you enjoy the advent calendar!
Interested to learn what this is all about – thanks for sharing! (Although I do enjoy my chocolate filled calendar!)
Who doesn’t love a bit of chocolate! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ted.

Hi everyone, This is Theo from the Tactile Times.
We’re so pleased that our advent calendar has been featured here, and we are always really happy to hear how much people are enjoying it. If anyone has any feedback for us, whether good or bad, please do reply here or email us on info@tactiletimes.org. We are already aware of some minor presentation issues for sighted users on phones, and will try and fix this in time for next year.
If you are a young braillist (young blind person who uses braille as their main way to read and write) do also feel free to contribute your own Christmas joke or piece of Christmas music (in audio form) for the chance to be featured behind one of the remaining doors.
Happy Christmas from all of us at the Tactile Times.
I really enjoyed reading this blog with my mum, I’m 10 and have a severe sight impairment. I’m going to show my teacher so my friends can read this too!
Hi Sofia, this is lovely to hear and I hope your friends enjoyed reading too!
